2013 Ski Season

What an amazing ski season we've had.  The whole family has really enjoyed the time we've spent together skiing at Discovery.  Don't get me wrong, it's a drive, but so worth it.  Discovery is a great family hill and we look forward to years to come!

We are totally impressed with how well both girls have done this season.  Heading into January we were unsure how it would go with Sydney being so little, but both girls were patient with each other and learned a lot this year.

Hailey is flying down the mountain....no need to wait for her, she keeps right up.  She was lucky enough to take some lessons from an amazing teacher (whom she loved).  She continues to get better with each outing.   Right now she is working hard on "smashing the bugs" in the front of her boots, turning and then putting her skis together, and carrying/getting in and out of her skis.....oh, and lets not forget, getting around the hill without poles and/or Mommy or Daddy pushing her.   The last few times up she has carried all her stuff, gotten her skis on by herself and ridden the chair alone...which she loves.  She is gung-ho when it comes to skiing and will usually ski from 10-3 putting in about 10 runs.  We are so proud of her!

For Sydney being so little you would think there was no way she could get in all that ski gear, let alone function in it.  WRONG!  From day one she has loved skiing.  She could hardly wait to get her boots on and thought skis were the coolest thing ever.  Almost everyday when getting out of the car she says, "There's my skis over there."  Even though we have to get up really early and hit the road by 7:15 in the morning, she is anxious to get on the hill.  At this point she is on "tails."  She cruises right along and has amazing balance.  If you ask her if she wants to go in and have a break her answer is usually NO.  When she does go in and rest, she is the one who says, "I ready to get my stuff on and ski."  For the most part she is skiing on the easy chair and takes around 10 runs.  She does also enjoy going on Jubilee chair and skiing Gold Bug or as she refers to it, "The bump run."  This is a normal/long run and it wears her down pretty quick, but at least she gets to go fast and ski with Hailey.   We are looking forward to getting Sydney off her tethers next year and skiing the "big" mountain as a family.

We haven't kept track of how many times we have been up this season, but we're guessing between 10-12.  Lots of weekends away, but a great family activity to all of us are loving.  Kind of sad it is all coming to an end.  Last day of the year is April 7th, so you can bet on seeing us up there!  Looking forward to next year already!
