This was Hailey's first year understanding what a birthday is. If you ask her, she can tell you the month and day of her birthday. Now, does she know what that means.....NO. What she does understand is that birthdays mean: cake, presents, food, and balloons. She could hardly wait!
This year we let Hailey pick her theme. I was all prepared in my mind for Dora and out of now where she pulled out Cars. Now, keep in mind she has maybe seen 20 minutes of the movie and has had no real contact with anything Cars related prior to her birthday. I was not convinced we were having a Cars party, so we took her to the party store to show her the other options. What did she keep coming back to......CARS.

Party #1: Hailey's Family
Both sets of grandparents, the Finks, and Katie were over for lunch and to celebrate Hailey turning three. We had a great lunch and Hailey got antsy for her gifts, so we started opening. She ripped right through...looking at each for a grand total of 1 second and flew to the next. She got many wonderful things that she appreciated once we looked at them later that day. Thanks to all for the fabulous gifts. I must say, her favorite has to be her cash register and shopping cart and if you want to find out....come over and that is ALL you will be doing!

Party #2: Playgroup friends and neighbors.
The kids in Hailey's playgroup are her closest friends and we couldn't have a birthday without them. So, on a Friday afternoon, the day before her birthday, we had those who could make it over for some fun and cupcakes.

It's funny what a year can do. Last year Hailey only licked off the frosting of a cupcake. This year...can down one before I get the rest handed out and be asking for a second one.
As in true birthday party fashion there were goodie bags for the kids, but I made them work for their goodies. We had several games set up and they got "Cars" prizes at each game for their bag. As you can see from the picture there was a tire/ring toss, ball kick, pom pom drop, and not pictured, the Frisbee throw. I think the kids enjoyed it and gave them something to do.

The party would not have been complete without the slip n' slide. The kids were pretty unsure at first, but thanks to the parents helping out everyone got involved and LOVED it. They could have spent all night out there.
On the day of Hailey's actual birthday we spent some quality family time together. We did our usual trip to the Farmers Market, but this time I met them down there. Kevin drove Hailey down in her bike trailer...which she loves. It takes them about 30-40 minutes to get downtown. Hailey of course got a croissant and then we were off to the carousel. On our way home Hailey fell asleep in the car. This was probably her first nap in about two weeks...she had to have been exhausted with all the parties and camping she did the week prior. After nap, she wanted to go to Costco for samples and then we went to the dinner of her choice. Red Robin. She always orders herself: Mac and Cheese and oranges. She even got chocolate milk. The dinner ended with the waiters coming and singing her happy birthday and bringing her a sundae. She was pretty unsure about the singing, but the sundae made up for it.
